Valletta, November 20, 2023 – Malta Opera is thrilled to announce its upcoming concert, “The Beauty of Bel Canto,” a mesmerizing musical experience that promises to captivate audiences with the timeless artistry of Bel Canto music and singing, performed by five of Malta’s established international performers.
For one night only, it is live in concert on Tuesday 28th November at 7.30 at the Teatru Manoel in Valletta, Malta.
“The Beauty of Bel Canto” is a celebration of the rich and emotive style of Bel Canto singing, known for its lyrical phrasing, expressive vocal techniques, and virtuosic ornamentation. Audiences can expect a night of exquisite melodies and powerful performances that showcase the beauty and complexity of this revered vocal tradition.
Featuring four of Malta’s top opera singers – Sopranos Claire Debono and Nicola Said, Tenor Cliff Zammit Stevens, and Baritone Charles Buttigieg, accompanied by Pianist Maria-Elena Farrugia, they will perform popular Italian Repertoire including works by Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti and Verdi. Together, they will create an unforgettable musical journey, transporting the audience to the heart of this timeless and enchanting art form.
The carefully curated programme includes a repertoire of classic Bel Canto arias and duets, from popular operas such as Il Barbiere di Siviglia; Lucia di Lammermoor, Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Don Pasquale, L’Elisir d’amore, Rigoletto and La Traviata, offering a diverse range of musical expressions that highlight the versatility and emotional depth of this distinctive vocal style.

The Beauty of Bel Canto is another such production, bringing together amazing home grown talent. During the event, donations will be collected in Aid of the Malta Trust Foundation’s Blossom Project with the Mdina Lions Club.
The evening’s concert is funded by the Arts Council Malta Programming Support Fund and AirMalta, official travel partners. Malta Opera also thanks the Janatha Stubbs Foundation; RISC, Kenjo, the Italian Embassy and the many supporters who make opera happen.
